Stay-at-homes extinguish fire at Taos Plaza
A mid day blaze at Funk's 5&10 on Taos Plaza drew fire crews after a siren. Owner Clark B Funk and others attended a firemen’s convention in Alamogordo. A firework display near the storefront ignited by a match dropped into a waste basket. Stay-at-homes quickly put out the flames. damage was minor but repainting was needed due to smoke.

Budgets approved last week by the State Public School Board cover Questa Penasco and Ojo Caliente districts. The Questa plan totals 593 607 dollars with teacher raises about 452, other staff 300. Preschool efforts gain 40 places. Questa adds 14,000 for two kindergarten classes. Ojo Caliente receives 408,124 with state funds 94 per student, leaving gaps for library and band needs but with supplemental funds expected for distribution issues.
