County Audit Critiques Treasurer Office Practices

Carson National Forest Ski Area Plan Moves Forward

Funds land to create a new ski area between Taos Ski Valley and Red River. The State Highway Department will handle construction engineering with forest field surveys this summer and design this winter. Construction could begin next spring pending weather. The forest will update its prospectus for a site above Taos Valley at 9,000 to 11,000 feet, offering varied slopes for all levels.

Taos Town Council Approves Funds and Projects

The Taos town council allocated next year’s funds for a program starting July 1 and authorized a $10,000 surplus deposit on a 90 day certificate. Officials voiced cash worries for upcoming weeks while approving numerous actions including courtesy parking tickets for out of state vehicles, installing plaza meters, and a feasibility study for a new police car.

Taos County CAP invites applications for a Mainstream project director at 7150 per year. Stock Pen Funds OKd for Penasco Livestock Facility

The Economic Development Administration approved a 12000 grant to the Penasco Area Development Association for a community livestock marketing facility in Penasco. The project will centralize marketing for local ranchers and keep sales in the area.

Pruitt Assigned To Albuquerque

Dan D. Seaman announces the transfer of John R. Pruitt from the Carson National Forest to the Cibola National Forest in Albuquerque. Pruitt, a registered professional engineer, holds a Civil Engineering degree from New Mexico State University and has served in the Air Force. He and his wife Patricia and two daughters will relocate with him.

Mares Completes Course For Community Action

Frank J. Mares Jr of Taos graduates from a University of Wisconsin Community Action program in Madison. Fifty three rural Americans finished an eleven week training to return to 24 states and tackle poverty and community problems. Mares served as class sheriff during on the job training under Father Garcia and Capitol Bldg Santa Fe.
