Taos airport expansion prompt for environmental study demand
Activists promise a suit against the Federal Aviation Administration and the Town of Taos if they do not declare the need for more study by Friday June 15. Town manager Gus Cordova denies a full environmental impact statement while an assessment from 1987 is acknowledged. Merrill Goodwin of the New Mexico State Aviation Division attended the coalition meeting to discuss technical aspects and potential regional airport service for Northern New Mexico. Alfred Trujillo urged better information and suggested reexamination of the project. Goodwin defended airport support, saying officials want the airport and his job is to build it.
