Deliberate Fire Behind Wal-Mart Sparks Investigation

Police seek tips after a blaze behind Wal-Mart in Taos destroyed pallets and cardboard and reached a trailer before firefighters stopped it. Taos police tase armed man. BB gun found after standoff

Taos Police used a Taser on Andrew Jeantete 40 after he reportedly refused commands and appeared armed. A WW wind shield was damaged on his father's property. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital with health issues not linked to the incident. The department has deployed Tasers for about a year, including a dog restraint with no injuries.

Crime and welfare calls pepper weekend blotter

Break in reported at Big O Tires on Paseo del Pueblo Sur. Police investigated slashed tires at the Sports Bar on Dea Lane. A suspect was arrested on Peralta after a caller warned of a man with a gun. A citizen found a wallet on Kit Carson Road containing cards and cash. Welfare check on a man on Paseo del Pueblo Sur. A man soliciting money prompted calls. June 5 saw four graffiti reports to local businesses. June 6 a broken Sun Shades window at 6:15 a.m.

Taos Volunteer Fire Department May Activity Summary

Taos Volunteer Fire Department responded to 44 calls in May, bringing the year total to 194. Notable events included one structure fire with bacon burning in an oven, two vehicle fires, five grass fires, sixteen false alarms, two vehicle crashes with injuries, one extrication, six medical calls, two dogs rescued from the Rio Hondo, aerial ladder operations to save the dogs, safety support during a ruptured natural gas main on U S 64, a vehicle retrieved from the Rio Lucero, safety at a fireworks show, and participation in St Francis School evacuation and Taos High School graduation safety drills.

Individuals named include Jesus Santistevan in Taos with a BAC around .26, Eileen Rodarte facing DWI plus drug and evidence tampering charges, and James Coca charged with DUI and minors in possession among others.

Graffiti Spreads Across Five Taos Buildings

Several vandalism incidents were reported Monday morning June 6 with graffiti found on at least five buildings on Camino de Santiago Gus orf and Kit Carson Road. The graffiti included misspelled epithets against law enforcement officers and removing it can be costly for owners. Taos Police Department invites information at 505-758-216.
