Obituary of J. A. Passarelli in Dixon store founder
Jose Alfonso Passarelli 77 a Dixon resident for 11 years died Friday morning at his store. He worked as a salesman for Knuckles Packing Co and other firms in New Mexico and Colorado before opening his general merchandise store. He was active in church and political affairs and a supervisor for the Soil Conservation Service at his death. Survivors include his wife Jacinta a stepson J O Lujan of Dixon two sons Mike and Sam of Denver a daughter Helen of Aguilar Cole. Requiem high Mass was sung Monday at St Anthony Church Dixon Rev Louis Hare officiating. Pallbearers were Phil Lavato Dr R G Hollis Pat Esquibel Carl Schwartz Hepolin Rendon and Benito Medina. Burial was in St Anthony Cemetery Dixon.

Santistevan Quafre Santistevan, 74, of Ranchos de Taos, died Wednesday morning at Holy Cross Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later this week by Hanson Funeral Home.

Historian seeks help locating Black Mesa Indian art site
A Colorado historian, A M Kime of Englewood, offers a reward to anyone who can locate and direct him to a hidden Indian rock art area on Black Mesa between San Juan and Embudo. He has made about 100 unsuccessful expeditions since first seeing the site in August 1936, describing a three to four block area with carvings of snakes, circles, crosses, deer and more on a single rocky layer. He recalls a life-size inverted carving that serves as a central marker and asks helpers to contact him at 3503 Broadway, Englewood, Colorado.

Latir District Faces Financial Strain And Possible One System
Latir district battles zero reserves and a bleak first year, with questions about remaining independent or joining a county wide system. County leaders favor a one system plan to consolidate high schools at Questa Taos and Penasco and centralize junior highs and grades.
