Mints and Their Coins Through American History
The Carson City, Dahlonega, Charlotte and Denver mints shaped U S coinage history. Carson City operated 1869 to 1893 under Abraham Curry, is now a museum. Dahlonega and Charlotte minted gold coins until 1861, marked D and C, now prized by collectors. Denver opened 1906 as a major mint and, since 1955, absorbed much S F mint duties. These mints’ coins remain highly sought after by collectors of early Americana.
