First Entrant In State Fair Queen Contest

Farmington High School senior Sandy Lo, a 16 year old from Lay Plata, is the first official entrant in New Mexico's State Fair Queen contest to be held during the 1963 State Fair in Albuquerque. She is sponsored by her local community and must be single and between 16 and 21. The winner will be crowned at the Tingley Cajse on Friday night, Sept 24 and receive prizes including a crown and belt buckle. Last year’s queen was Betty Greene of Deming. The pageant includes horsemanship and personality judging. The 1963 fair runs Sept 12 through 15 in Albuquerque.

Mr and Mrs Tom Graham of Austin Texas and daughter toured Taos meeting Mr and Mrs A A Skeezix Rodriguez and their daughter Sylvia. Graham is Rodriguezs cousin. Prof and Mrs Sam Fearrari of Verde Valley School Sedona Arizona also called on the Tunsenos during their Taos trip. With the Fearrari group was their three year old son.

Pancake Feed Slated Sunday By Kiwanis Club

Luis Fernandez described the act as placing responsibility on the county for the indigent hospital costs.

Five Suspects Quizzed On Latest Cantu Theft

Taos Police quizzed five suspects Monday morning after a burglary at Cantu Furniture and Hardware. More than $1000 in rifles radios televisions and watches were stolen from the store, entry gained via roof skylight. A watchman reported leaving at midnight. investigations continue.

Ski Valley Seeks Kids For Slope Grooming Program

Ski Valley invites children aged 12 with at least two years of skiing to earn a season pass by grooming Yaos Ski Valley slopes. Pueblo Youth Corps extends training across trades

In a briefing Botone outlined adult vocational training and on the job programs for Indians, citing placements from an Albuquerque archery firm to a Chicago electronics company. Pueblo Youth Corps members work about 36 hours weekly on community projects such as building fences adobes and corrals while girls learn home skills.

Budget Shifts Reduce Court Funds and Raise Key Salaries

The report outlines cuts to court funds and raises in the Probation Office and District Attorney's office. Clerks face a salary cut from 3720 to 2400, miscellaneous funds drop from 936 to 200, while probation chief earns 5700 to 6000 and other salaries climb to 2880.
