Rio Grande Gorge gas pipeline reroute begins August first

A 14 million four month project will reroute and expand about six miles of natural gas pipeline in the Rio Grande Gorge near Taos County. Construction starts August 1 and runs through mid November with two river crossings and two crossings under the Rio Grande. The plan aims to provide safer and more secure service, prompting traffic delays on State Road 68 and drawing public concern from Pilar residents. The Bureau of Land Management approved the plan April 26, restricting landscape scars and moving segments underground for flexibility.
