Taos Summer Recreation Program in Sixth Week

In Taos the summer recreation program reaches week six with daily activities at Taos Junior High and St Joseph gyms. Girls six to 13 attend 1 to 5 pm except Wednesday, while younger children 6 to 9 swim Wednesdays in Espanola. Programs include arts crafts reading and many sports driven by strong physical activity.

Rocina Rodarte Laid To Rest In Penasco Funeral

Rosary was spoken July 13 at Garcia’s St Martin Chapel and July 14 at St Anthony’s. Rocina Rodarte, 19, of Rodarte was buried at Sierra Vista Cemetery after services at St Anthony’s. A NM Highlands University student survived by parents Eli and wife, sister Carol Lee, paternal grandparents Tyank Rodarte Sr., and sister Anna Bell Torres of Los Angeles. Several pallbearers named. Summer recreation programs in Taos include YMCA activities, teen club, sewing classes, and a joint effort by local agencies and churches to sustain a 35 hour weekly schedule with various sports and fitness opportunities.

Infant Carla Baca Rites Held For 3-Month-Old in Chamisal

Infant Carla Baca of Chamisal died July 16 and was 3 months old. Parents Mr and Mrs Carlos Baca and maternal grandmother Mrs Emma Gonzales survive. Rosary was held Friday at the parents home. Pallbearers were Herbert Lopez Aurelio Gonzales and Anselmo Pacheco. Garcia Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Town funds show 100000 in sales taxes for fiscal year

The town projects 100000 in sales taxes for the year starting July 1, with old rate estimates at 70000. Other resources include 6410 property taxes 5500 franchises 7000 occupation licenses 7000 liquor licenses 9500 cigarette taxes 5000 vehicle licenses 4800 police fines 30 dog licenses 6500 parking meters 100 building permits. Utility budget expects 88236 from service sales, total utility budget 122584.

Taos ski plans hinge on highway paving

Ernie Blake, a TSV operator in Taos, warns the current road is unbelievable and crippling regional economy. He says summer beds will stay empty until paving, urges action to unlock Taos County unemployment through a vast ski complex from Kachina Peak to Red River and Sangre de Cristo.
