Fiesta royal court announced at Fiestecita event

Viva la Reina marked the official unveiling of this year’s fiesta royal court during the Fiestecita at Bataan Hall on Friday July 16. Las Fiestas de Santiago y Santa Ana are scheduled for this weekend July 23 to 25, with the Fiesta Guide appearing in this issue.

State Opposes Valle Vidal Drilling In New Mexico

Gov. Bill Richardson said the state will oppose coalbed methane drilling in the Valle Vidal area of the Carson National Forest. The comment followed environmentalist protests and prior El Paso Natural Gas lease requests, with Richardson promising to make development difficult while urging adherence to the law. The Valle Vidal spans Taos and Colfax counties and has drawn national attention through protests and political debate.

Sanchez resists mayor pro tem duties amid council dispute

Taos area to gain insurance call center with 150 jobs

ZC Sterling of Atlanta plans to open an in bound insurance call center in Taos, hiring from the local workforce and creating about 150 jobs over the next one to two years. CiDirect chief Mary Bra praised Taos for its fit with their rural Iowa location and bilingual position ads drew strong applicants. An adjacent facility operated by Advanced Call Center Technologies aims to start end of month, beginning with 60 jobs and growing to 350 within a few years.
