Trout plan shifts for Rio Chiquita browns
Fisher ies chief Rick McCloskey says plans to curb brown trout in the Rio Chiquita have changed. The browns overwhelmed cutthroats, leading to a plan to use toxins that prompted public outcry. now the department will electrofish the upper stream to remove browns and then relocate them to the Rio Pueblo or Rio Grande. After removal, cutthroats will be reintroduced to the upper Chiquita. No project date set.

Schmitt to Open GOP Headquarters in County Ceremony

Rural voters split on county licenses. tax measure passes
Final returns show Rural voters mostly opposed beer and wine licenses as the measure won 644 to 274. An additional 0.25 percent hospital indigent tax passed 980 to 140 with turnout under 10 percent. precinct results varied with Red River and Trampas voting against the tax while Ranchos de Taos approved 53 to 0. Cerro's 12-12 tally was not in at press time. County clerk Marie Lorraine Gallegos noted the ballot box arrived around 9:30 p.m. after watchers paused for dinner.

Two Taos Queens Stir Up Dual Crown At Chile Cookoff
The Taos Chile Cookoff will crown two queens this year. Miss Chile Pepper, dubbed queen of queens, will be chosen from Taos County queens. Taos Men Injured In Two Vehicle Crash Near Holman
Two Taos airmen Raymond Romero and Wayne Rival were hurt July 5 when a northbound car driven by Eufracio Vigil left center on SR 8 near the SR 3 SR 121 junction collided with Romero’s vehicle. Romero, 20, remained in intensive care at Kirtland AFB Hospital with a shattered knee and injuries to his arm, spleen, and liver. Rival was treated and released from Northeastern NM Regional Hospital in Las Vegas. Vigil was cited for driving left of center and intoxication.
