Taos Rescue Members Aid Fiery Canyon Incident
Taos Search and Rescue carried Fabian Struck from a forest fire scene near Pilar after he fell while negotiating a waterfall in a steep canyon. Struck was flown by Blackhawk from Kirtland AFB to Holy Cross Hospital and released. Teammate Gary Cisneros suffered torn knee ligaments and hobbled out with help from three rescuers. Idaho teams joined Taos and Pecos fire units dispatched at 10 p.m. Sunday to contain the Agua Caliente Canyon blaze near Pilar.

Neighborhood council expands clout and seeks nonprofit guidance
Taos County Neighborhood Association council gains influence since its May 13 start with 16 streets now 25 associations. Ex-scout leader denies sex abuse claims in suit
Taos businessman and former Boy Scout leader Clark Funk said he is baffled by a lawsuit filed in the Eighth Judicial District Court alleging hundreds of acts of sexual abuse against a youth in the late 1960s. The complainant known as D.B. is represented by Albuquerque attorneys and the case notes alleged beatings and false imprisonment as well. Funk, who has been involved in Taos arts, Lions Club and youth programs, denies all allegations and calls the action an extortion attempt.

Town plans a multi year sewer expansion to connect Taos Taos Pueblo El Prado Cafion Ranchos de Taos and nearby communities by 2010. Lawrence Pacheco of Santa Fe won his category in the super modified alcohol injected Chevy mud bagger Under the Influence at Medina Downs near the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge on Sunday July 17. The Northern New Mexico Mud Bag Association sponsored the event with entrants from Santa Fe and southern Colorado across five classes. A truck show added to the day, won by Ray Padilla with his Chevy pickup. Winners: Kenny Lloyd Jr in unlimited, Tom Rudolph in super stock, Danny Lopez in modified, Pacheco in ???, Gerald Martinez in street stock.
