Wreck injures Talpa man near Forest Service road

Talpa man Albert J. Trujillo, 19, is in critical condition at Bernalillo County Medical Center after a July 18 crash when his car left Forest Service road beside Rio Chiquito, plunged 30 feet, and he was flown by helicopter to Albuquerque. Passenger Abner Lucero, 16, is at Holy Cross Hospital with a broken leg and facial injuries. police report no citations issued yet.

Rio Costilla Ski Area Put Up For Sale By Investors

Rio Costilla Ski Area near Amalia New Mexico is up for sale to private investors. The Rio Costilla Recreation Development Corporation faces dissolution by its parent Rio Costilla Cooperative Livestock Association which owns 83 000 acres. A final agreement is expected within two weeks with Richard Gonzales to remain manager until decision.

Taos Farmers Market Opens Saturday at 7 A.M.

The Taos Farmers Market opens Saturday July 21 at 7 a.m. in front of Taos County Courthouse with spring produce including lettuce and carrots, Indian bread, pastries, and crafts. Lions Club sponsors the market with Taos County extension agent Ray Torres. as many as 38 vendors have participated in the past. the market began in 1971 and typically runs until mid-September.

Widow sues Ford and dealer over fatal EXP crash

Don Oliver’s widow, Lillian Oliver, sues Ford and Harper Motor Company for more than 6 million dollars claiming the Ford EXP was uncrashworthy and caused his death. She seeks 4.5 million from Ford and 2.25 million from Harper, who sold the car in June 1981. Julian and Della Varog owned the car in a Sandoval County crash in August 1981. Oliver was a passenger and was ejected and died, with the suit alleging negligence in promotion and failure to warn.

Man Dies in Taos Pueblo Jail Cell

A Taos Pueblo man identified as Archuleta, 68, died in a jail cell after a dispatcher received a late night call at 9 20. Authorities say Archuleta was found unresponsive about 20 minutes after jail staff began attempts to revive him. A medical examiner’s report will determine the cause of death.
