Nine Senoritas Compete for Fiesta Queen in Taos
The Fiestas de Santiago y Santa Ana begin with a Queen Pageant at 8 p.m. today at the Taos Community Auditorium. Nine candidates will model Fiesta outfits and present three minute speeches on what the festival means to them. Admission is $3. events continue through Friday with coronation at the old courthouse balcony and a Saturday by invitation-only coronation ball at the Holiday Inn.

Elifas Sanchez 46 Dies After Prolonged Illness in Fort Harrison
Elifas J. Sanchez 46 of 722 S. Washington died Thursday in Fort Harrison after an extended illness. Born in Taos New Mexico he served in the Korean War era. He moved to Butte after military service and worked as a miner at Anaconda Co Smelter. Survivors include his wife Norma son Terry Lee daughters Betty Sadoski and Carla Zahn sister Virginia Valerio Sr brothers Nelson Dickie Trujillo and three grandchildren. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery Butte Montana.
