Balloon pilot fears June clash could turn deadly near Taos
Taos balloon pilot Ed Smith warns a June confrontation with West Rim Road resident Walter Agner may escalate to gun violence. After landing 100 to 150 yards from Agner’s home, Agner allegedly threatened Smith with a .38 revolver, drove over the balloon envelope, and damaged nine balloon parcels valued at about 900 dollars. Deputies are investigating. Agner could not be reached for comment.

Tazered suspect faces charges in Taos arrest
Dennis Mascarefias, 47, was charged with two counts of battery on a police officer assault on a police officer and resisting an officer after a July 1 arrest in Taos. He refused to enter a plea at July 12 arraignment and was held on a 20000 dollar cash bond after allegedly resisting and kicking an officer before being subdued with a non lethal Tazer. Medics treated him at the scene for back pain.
