Second river search abandoned after Rio Grande tragedy

Muddy high waters forced a second search for Albuquerque man Robert Crinch missing after a raft overturned during the Fourth of July weekend on the Rio Grande north of Questa. Police say bodies recovered earlier were Robert Baker 24 and Byron Page 25, both of Albuquerque, with survivor Robert Hammond 24.

Taos Indians to receive land settlement payments this fall

Taos Pueblo News reports individual payments totaling over 1 million dollars from the Indian Claims Commission award for 926 acres around Taos. Forty percent goes to tribal members with one quarter or more blood, thirty percent to Interior for investment and management, and twenty percent for tribal programs including resource protection and social economic improvements.

Taos County Sets Plan for New Personnel Code

Taos County moves toward an extensive personnel code with an ordinance, resolution, rules, job classifications and salary scales. Commission set to adopt in August after a July 13 hearing. The code, researched by County Manager Samuel O Montoya and Yolanda Archuleta Munoz, defines each job and employment rules while excluding elected officials unless their office consents. Taos Pueblo Day School Destroyed by Arson

The Taos Pueblo Day School near Taos Pueblo was burned to destruction at about 3:35 a.m. on November 2, 1976. Estimated damage is $60,000. A $500 reward is offered for information leading to arrest and indictment, with Crime Stoppers number 758-8118. Callers may remain anonymous and information kept confidential.
