Frank E. Gusdorf, age 30, promoted to assistant cashier of First State Bank of Taos effective July 1. He joined the bank May 17, 1965 and previously worked at the Questa branch and in Santa Fe and Taos lending, with Navy service aboard the Bon Homme Richard. He is married with four children and native of Ranchos de Taos.

New School Support Rules Tie to Minimum Standard
The State Board of Education will cut state and federal support from schools not meeting policy standards effective July 1, 1987. About 240 of roughly 900 schools are on conditional status for issues such as unqualified teachers, oversized classes, library deficiencies, and failures to report information to the Department of Education.

Taos Plaza popcorn wagon restored by Albuquerque pair
Ralph Hooper and George Buffett of Albuquerque restored the 1906 Creton popcorn wagon once steam driven. They found it in Eunice and bought it two years ago for about $800, now offered up to $4,000 after restoration. The wagon will sit on Taos Plaza all summer selling popcorn and peanuts.

Taos High School graduates Nick Noeding and Joe Stuart scored top results at the National Speech Tournament on the University of New Mexico campus. They faced teams from Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Wyoming, California before losing to Michigan. The pair, among 320 students from 38 states, helped Taos set a record with 144 wins and 26 trophies. Both plan college speech careers at UNM and NM State University.
