Taos County Eyes 1993 94 Budget With Tax Hike
Taos County clears initial DFA nod for the 1993 94 budget including a tax increase. County managers say interim figures will adjust ending cash balances and final budget hearing is slated for July 20. Commissioners approved user fees for solid waste and a regional landfill, plus a 1/16 gross receipts tax for Medicaid matching funds. Expenditures include a financial director and a land use planner, plus a one time incentive pay for long term employees.
Bids Unsealed for Ski Rio as FDIC Hashes Next Sale
The FDIC unsealed new bids for Ski Rio in Taos County at its Washington headquarters on June 30 and plans a sealed bid auction by summer's end. Bernie Torres and David Hendricks pressed petitions and letters to NM Senators, seeking to slow bids and offer a guaranteed 30 day close to outpace Jacques de Bruijn's $1.176 million bid.

Taos Powwow draws visitors for three day inter tribal event
The Taos Pueblo Powwow Committee expects over 1,000 visitors for three days of inter tribal dancing and singing July 9 to 11. Grand entries are planned Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon with dances including fancy war, jingle dress, and straight dance. Registration closes Saturday at 5 p.m. Admission is $3 daily with no camping fee. photographers must sign a release and ask permission before filming.
