Ex Taoseno Heads New Patrol District

Captain Martin Vigil, formerly Taos and Taos' DesGeorges, is named resident commander of the Espanola district of the State Highway Patrol, to be stationed at Lowdermilk Construction Co. in Ranchitos. Seven officers will serve under Vigil as district headquar ters. Chavez, promoted to sergeant last year, recently graduated from the FBI Academy in Washington.

Mrs. Sofia Gonzales of Arroyo Obituary

Sofia Gonzales of Arroyo died July 4 at St. Vincent Hospital Santa Fe. Her body was returned to Taos for funeral and burial. Services will be held at Arroyo Seco with time and place to be announced by Carcia's Funeral Home.

Rayos Herrera Rites Held for Mrs Rayos A Herrera

Funeral services for Mrs. Rayos A Herrera 39 fatally wounded June 28 at her Chamisal home were led by Rev Patrick Lopez at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial followed at Chamisal Cemetery under Garcia's Funeral Home Taos direction. Survivors include her mother Lucia Archuleta son Larry six Archuleta brothers Eli Joe J Arthur Jerry Louis Ted and two sisters Kate Lovato and Shirley Archuleta. Pallbearers were Joe Archuleta Eli Archuleta Arthur Archuleta Louis Archuleta Onecimo Rodriguez and Jessie Lovato. A eulogy was given by Diego Lovato. Rosary was recited Friday evening at Garcia Chapel.

M S Barkley of Anson Texas died at his Red River summer home on Sunday. His body was moved to Hanlon Funeral Home in Tans and then returned to Anson for funeral services and burial.

Santa Fe Leader A B Suazo dies after short illness

A B Suazo 76 longtime Santa Fe resident and former Taos County assessor from 1924 to 1930 died Saturday morning at St. Vincent Hospital Santa Fe after a short illness. He worked over 30 years for the state in the Land Office Tax Commission and Bureau of Revenue and remained active in Santa Fe Democratic circles. Survived by widow Delfinia a son Pedra of Grand Teton Mosse Wye a daughter Mrs Famas Nashie Ruiz and two other children raised as his own. Rosary was recited Sunday night from Block's Chapel in Santa Fe.

Mrs Young of Red River and Albuquerque Dies at 93

Mrs. Augusta M. Young widow of Jesse N. Young longtime Red River Albuquerque resident died after a short illness in Santa Fe on June 20. She was born in Elizabeth town April 3 1587 to ranchers in New Mexico Funeral services were at French Fitzgerald Mortuary Albuquerque Saturday July 1 at 9 am with burial at Calvary Cemetery Albuquerque She leaves H F Young Jr and Mrs Marie Craven Espanola among survivors.

Taos woman dies in canyon crash after missing

The body of 32 year old Mrs. Chavez was found in a Taos canyon after she disappeared June 26 while reportedly driving to see an optometrist. An autopsy was ordered in Santa Fe, with investigators examining the car at the scene and in the garage. Funeral services to be announced.

Foreign Visitors Due Here

Two foreign leaders arrive in Taos for short study and recreation under the Foreign Leader Program. Nguyen Duyen, director of Southeast Asia affairs in Vietnam, arrives tonight at 8:45 with escort-interpreter Charles Morla and stays through Saturday. Peters, Netherlands burgomaster of Bergen op Zoom, arrives Saturday morning July 8 and plans a weekend visit after attending the International Union of Local Authorities conference in Washington last month.

Army School trains Gonzales for cannoneer duties

Army student Willie Gonzales son of Mr and Mrs Alfreca Conz ales is eight weeks into advanced individual training at The Artillery and Missile Center Fort S t Oklo. Training ends July 2. He is learning cannoneer duties with the 100 millimeter howitzer, a light field artillery weapon.

Indians close Blue Lake area to protect sacred ceremonies

Taos Pueblo leaders and Forest Service officials outlined a plan to close Blue Lake, Rio Lucero Canyon, and Taos Pueblo Creek to non Indians during the ceremonial season. The forest lands will be under Pueblo management with free timber and grazing rights and exclusive use during ceremonies. Non Indians may access areas outside these times with signed permits, while the council may withhold permits if needed.

Taos boxers claimed decisive wins at Antonite Sunday sponsored by the Antonite American Legion Post 48. Gilbert Tollardo 105 pounds battered Praxe Ortega at Luis Colo for three straight rounds to earn a unanimous nod. Louis Tafoya 118 pounds outboxed Joe Praherroff of the State Boys School at S P ez, using jabs and right hands to halt his opponent multiple times and seal victory. Taos suffered one loss when Elias Tollardo failed to appear for his scheduled bout against Andy Abeyta of Castill member of the San Luis Bos i Club.
