Gorge crash claims El Prado man 29 in Rio Grande
Rescuers were called twice to a Sunday dawn crash on State Road 68 south of Pilar. Jesus M. Perez, 29, of El Prado, drowned when his 1980 Ford Fairmont veered off the road, struck a Dodge pickup driven by Ralph Suazo, and plunged into the Rio Grande with Perez trapped inside. Ezekiel Chavira, 30, of Taos, survived the downstream spill, found alive with serious injuries. Witnesses noted erratic driving prior to the collision.
