Taos County Sheriff Charlie Martinez says animal control officer Lawrence Gurulé is on administrative leave with weapons removed while an internal probe continues. Gurulé shot Cinnamon the dog in front of a 16 year old owner. the dog died next morning after running home. A Friday work-study session will address the incident and Sheriff use of the old National Guard Armory. Commission Chair Gabriel Romero noted guns were taken, a 9 mm handgun and a department issued rifle. The panel voted 3-0 to discuss the matter and related issues at the meeting.
Taos residents packed the Taos Town Council chambers in a meeting hosted by the Coalition for the Valle Vidal and KTAO radio to oppose Valle Vidal drilling. They warned drilling would harm the landscape and local revenues, while Forest Service plans public comment forums for February.
Taos police charged Lyn Anderson with one felony battery on a peace officer and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer along with shoplifting a Harry Potter DVD from Smith's Food and Drug. She was arraigned in Taos Magistrate Court after being released to a third party. bond set at 7000 cash.
