Martinez alleges a meeting of Young Democrats to back Montoya while Gallegos and Montoya clash over experience and duties. Montoya defends his readiness as he acknowledges unpaid dues, with Dr. Rosen voicing cautious support for Montoya amid concerns about juvenile candidates.
The Taos meeting resolved the voting issue by chair decision. A five member platform committee was named: Mrs. Caroline Parr, Roy Martinez, Luis Trujillo, Lake Gallegos, George Reynolds, and Arturo Archuleta. Endorsed candidates Sanchez Martinez and Vargas addressed the crowd with pledges on taxes, services, and growth.
A Taos town meeting on party designation drew questions from Dr. Al Rosen and debates over whether it was truly a town or Democratic gathering. Attendees noted absence of Mayor Vigil and County Democratic Chairman Wheaton while Airman Third Class Dennis Varos, Taos native, graduates from Sheppard AFB training and sails for Hamilton AFB.
Two men, Danny Frank Montoya aged 21 and Luis Leroy Vigil aged 24, were arrested by State Police within a week of the December 12 break in at Ranchos Trading Post. Liquor and cigarettes were stolen. Each suspect was released on bonds set by Peace Justice Filemon Sanchez on January 21, with $3,000 cash or $6,000 property bond.
The Taos District Boy Scout court of honor will be conducted at 4 30 p m Sunday Feb 13 at the Catholic Central Gymnasium. A bridal shower for Miss Delores Duran was held Jan 10 in the Golden Q Hostesses included Mrs Norbert Ortega Mrs Santiago Ortega Mrs Jerry Sanchez Mrs Gilbert Arellano Mrs Cip Quintana Mia Roger Herrera Mrs Rny Cordova Miss Elsieman Duran and Miss Bennie Garcia.
