Judge dismisses Mascarenas civil rights suit in federal case

Judge Leon Karelite upholds dismissal of Viola Mascarenas civil rights and sex discrimination suit in federal court while allowing state breach of contract action to continue. Mascarenas, fired from Taos County sheriff's department in 1981, alleged back pay and discriminatory practice by Sheriff Arturo Trujillo and board members. The EEOC found grounds for a sex discrimination claim, and the state suit had sought to consolidate actions to save costs. No date set for the federal case.
