Taos County Board Overhauls Leadership in Under One Hour

In a swept in view changes at the Taos County Commission meeting on Monday January 4 incumbent Manuel Trujillo and new commissioners Rebecca Parraz and Virgil Martinez approved an interim county manager interim county attorney interim director for housing and a new Roads Buildings and Landfills oversight post. Julia Valerio was named interim county manager earning 34718 with plans to advertise the permanent post. Robert Dale Morrison was named interim county attorney. Evelyn Parraz Archuleta became interim director of the Taos County Housing Authority. Joe Mike Duran was created as interim administrator of Roads Buildings and Landfills. details pending.

Montoya resigns as Taos County Intergovernmental Council chairman

Sam Montoya announced his resignation as chairman of the Intergovernmental Council, a Taos County body he founded to improve cross government communication. His contract expired December 31 and he declined to seek work under the new county administration after serving as CEO in 1977-1980 and 1986-1990 from La Mesilla near Espa ñola.

Taos County Board Faces Open Meetings Act Questions

Taos County commissioners and an appointed board may have violated the Open Meetings Act during a Monday session. They approved hiring Evelyn Archuleta as interim housing authority director and later sent a letter terminating Beatrice Silva. The termination was discussed in a closed session without a public vote.

NetDay86 aims to wire high schools nationwide

High schools push to go online as NetDay86 mobilizes thousands of volunteers to install school computer networks. NetDay at the high school is tentatively set for Feb 13, with a $640,000 federal grant and $82,000 in local funds sought to wire labs and offices for full Internet access.

Road work on tap again Downtown merchants want changes

Taos merchants association with 100 members opposes repeat of last summer's road construction chaos. Spokesperson Polly Raye recalls detours that closed stores and diverted traffic from Taos Plaza. The Camino de la Placita project begins this June as the final part of a three road plan to ease congestion.
