Additional Care for Mentally Retarded Planned
The State Health Department will launch a Mental Retardation Intensive Care project in Albuquerque after the new year to test intensive habilitative services for severely retarded children. Eight to twelve week authorizations with possible extensions aim to help children at the Children’s Home on 212 High Street NE, with six to eight children aged six or younger admitted at a time. The program lasts about five years, funded by federal money and operated with input from the Child Study Center, State Welfare and MCH divisions, and a team including a pediatrician, nurse directors, therapists, and a psychologist.
