Bursey Aims to Lead New Mexico Democratic Bid

Bursey predicted the exit of Ed Mead from the Democratic governor race after Mead failed to secure Clavez faction backing. Bursey criticized Gov. Burroughs and pledged reforms, including placing the Highway Commission under direct governor control and expanding paved roads and tourism industry in Taos County. Fire at Monte Vista Lodge in Red River Sparks Aid Outreach

Firemen from Taos and Eagle Nest responded with equipment when a blaze at the Monte Vista Lodge burned out. Winds were calm during the blaze but rose afterward blowing toward Silver Spruce Lodge, cracking windows across the street and prompting nearby lodges to serve breakfasts and coffee to guests and fire crews. Harrison and Olsen praised the responders as the Judge Lodge, famed for its antiques and paintings, showcased Red River's famed hospitality and atmosphere.

Three Accused of Burglary in Ranchos Bar Breakin

Kuban Baca bernesto Guterres and Manuel Mondragan are charged with breaking and entering Paul's Bar in Ranchos. In a Flores FP court complaint Paul Casas charges the trio, all of Ta with breaking a dour and taking 26 half pints of liquor. Trial not yet set per Judge J ML Flores.

Deaths Mr. R. Trujillo Dies Jan.3

Rafael Trujillo, 64, a prominent resident at il Prada and former justice of the peace, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque. He served two years as justice of the peace here, eight years as constable of Precinct 44 Prada, and eight years as Republican precinct chairman. His son Arthur Trujillo is undersheriff. Survivors include his wife and three daughters Mrs LeRoy Garcia of Tinos, Mrs Nick Cordova of EY Prada, and Miss Rebecca Trujillo. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with burial in Dolores Cemetery. Arrangements by Garcia Funeral Home.

Isa Gonzales Funeral Held in Ranchos Parish Church

Mineral services were held last Monday for Dan Gonzales who died at his Ranchos home. A longtime rancher and sleep raiser, he retired earlier due to illness. Surviving are his wife Cleotilde and six children including Nelson of Ranchos, Robert of Albuquerque, Victoria Romero of Long Beach, Vila Wilkan of Albuquerque. Burial was at Ranchos Freshwater Cemetery. Pallbearers: Victor Lucera, Werber Wilson, Arran Griegs, Frank Gonzales, Charlie Gonzales, Sonnie Gonzales.

Ex Taoseno Killed In Mine

Mike Pred Trujillo, 58, a native of Costia, was killed in a firing accident. Funeral services were held at Dac Tont Monroe. Trujillo was born in Cus: Villa and had worked in Iucha, Cale, and Cravan for the past three years. Survivors include his wife, four children, four sisters, Merella, jo and Pableta Trai, bath of Tavs, Julie Padia, and Dume lila Santistevan, all of Aravan, along with his foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Iluse Santistevan of Pueblo.

Burglars broke into the Murning General Stove in Costilla Monday night taking goods valued around $5000. Officers say the missing merchant stock is untraceable and suspects may be hard to identify.

In the Taos area New Year’s period saw two minor collisions and no intoxicated-driver incidents. Taos Firefighters battle four blazes in four days

Taos Volunteer Fire Department fought four fires in as many days. A pre dawn blaze razed the Keng Monte Vista Lodge in Red River during 23 below zero temperatures. A flu fire at the Conley home in Canon caused minor damage. Medina Apartments coal shed fire was contained. A VW accident near El Gaucho bar was quickly controlled.

Well-Armed Youths Arrested By Corda

State Patrolman Andy Cordova helped arrest two 18 year old youths near Taos Canyon after their car skidded on snow. Four revolvers were found, two .43 calibers, an .88, and a 160 SEW antique. Evidence tied them to a gun shop burglary at Cush ing and to a stolen 1959 Chevrolet station wagon. Authorities say they then abandoned that car and stole another vehicle before ending up in custody for federal authorities.
