Tigers Meet Raton Five Here Friday

The Taos Tigers host Clayton Junior and Raton Five in a Friday schedule opener on January 5. Taos previously beat Dulce 64-55 behind Alberto Medina 27 and Frank Parraz 18 while losing 69-60 to Los Alamos as Mike Norwood scored 17. Taos holds seven wins and two losses.

New Fish Tank Added to State Fish Transport Fleet

The Game Department added a new 1,000-pound fish tank distributor, matching last year’s size, bringing the fleet to four large units. A 600-pound tank will serve Lisbon Springs Hatchery, Red River gets two units 750 and 1,000 pounds, and Parkview receives the other 1,000-pound model equipped for long hauls.

Last Brownie Eggs Received From East Hatcheries

The final brown trout egg shipment arrived December 26 from Massachusetts totaling 340000 eggs. It completes a 1250000 egg order distributed to Lisbon Springs Red River and Seven Springs hatcheries. An additional 400000 eggs from North Dakota were delivered to Glenwood Hatchery. Fry will be planted in Pecos Rio Grande Chama Animas Gila and Rio Los Pinos streams.

Miss Espinosa Dies at 89 in Taos

Luz Espinosa, 89, of Taos died December 31 at the home of Mrs. Emiliano Trujillo in Ranchos de Taos. A lifelong Taos resident and seamstress, she was active in Our Lady of Guadalupe Altar Society and the Sacred Heart League. Survivors include second cousins J. T. Tafoya Taos, Mrs. David Struck Talpa, Raymond Sandoval Taos, Henry Tafoya Cardena Calif. Services held January 2 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church Canon, burial Sierra Vista Taos. Pallbearers Fernando Valdez, Emiliano Trujillo, Amarante Vigil, Bennie Martinez, Joseph Gurule, Martin Rivera Jr.

Obituary: J. O. Linebarger 70 of Tres Piedras Dies

J. O. Linebarger, 70, of Tres Piedras died December 28 at Espanola Hospital. Survived by two sons Jessie of Tonopah Nevada and Jack of Albuquerque two daughters Edna Mae Holmes Taos and Norman Walker Pioche Nevada seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He relocated from Quanah Texas to New Mexico and settled in Tres Piedras after retirement. He homesteaded in Servietta in 1921 and ran a store there. Funeral services were held December 30 at Hanlon Evangelical Chapel with burial at Sierra Vista Cemetery. Opening prayer by Tommy Rogers and Reverend Sam Horney. Sermon by Elder Willison and closing prayer by Elmer Shupe. Pallbearers Jim Booster Dude Newson Bate Gentry Albert Conklin Jr Earl Miller and Don Ambrose. Manassa Colorado Men’s Choir provided music with Emily Jensen at the organ.

Fish worth 1 dollar per pound totals 3 095 750 with 943 750 pounds trout and 2 142 000 pounds warm water fish. Total hunting and fishing expenses amount to 4 million dollars, excluding licenses.

Fishing Regulations Established by State Game Commission

The State Game Commission, at its December meeting, set the year’s fishing regulations starting April 1. Trout season north of U S Highway 66 opens May 5. Pecos River fishing extends to the bridge at state road 50 at Pecos village. Fishing hours 4 a m to 9 p m on Jackson Bonita Clayton and Santa Cruz lakes. elsewhere day and night. Warm-water bag limit unchanged except white bass limited to 40. Hand grappling banned. pole must be held or attended. Spears gigs arrows under water may be used for warm-water fish at Elephant Butte Caballo Conchas Alamogordo McMillan and Avalon lakes. Artificial lures only on Gilita Creek Big Canyon and San Gregorio Lake. San Gregorio Lake opens June 2. Motorized floating device fishing prohibited on Laguna Larga Nutrias Canjilon Goose Middle Fork Cabresto Lagunitas Lakes in Carson National Forest. Withholding Tax Tables Released for 1963 Refund Plan

The Income Tax Division has completed new withholding tax tables to minimize refunds for taxpayers with excess withholding. The tables are slightly lower than 1961 levels and reflect changes tied to the 1963 refund program. Frank McCulloch notes 1962 returns will show little refunds, as withholding began July 1, 1961. Gabriel Ortega announces tables available on request and advises machine users to apply a 4 percent rate for federal withholding instead of 6 percent for the latter half of 1961.
