Police probe a man’s death found in a sagebrush field near the Holiday Inn Taos. The 31 year old, Ezequil Chavira of Chihuahua Mexico, lived nearby and may have been in Taos for years. Autopsy pending details from the medical examiner. Two youths alerted authorities guiding the inquiry.

New district lines haunt legislature in New Mexico
In a special session set for Friday January 3 the New Mexico Legislature will tackle contested reapportionment of four southeast Senate districts. The U S Justice Department says the redrawn districts protect Anglo incumbents and dilute Hispanic and Black Hispanic blocs in Chaves Eddy and Lea counties. Senator Gloria Howes proposes northwest districts splitting Hispanic voters while stacking Navajo voters. The session may cost taxpayers about 150000 dollars.

Taos woman's death breathes life into others
After Heather Hicks died from a brain aneurysm at age 40, five people across states received organ transplants. Her husband Brad Hockmeyer recalls the donor process and the New Mexico Donor Program letter describing recipients: a heart to a 46-year-old from Lubbock, a liver to a 31-year-old from Romania, a kidney to a 33-year-old woman in Minnesota, and another kidney to a two recipients in Las Cruces and Minnesota.
