The pueblo seeks halt to the large mica mine operations, arguing cultural ties and pottery heritage are at stake. The case raises environmental and land reclamation issues as of February.
Santa Fe reports the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial could join New Mexico as a state park after House approval of Senate Joint Resolution 11 in 2004. The David Westphall Veterans Foundation negotiates donation of 25 acres with chapel and visitors center, aiming to open a new chapter for the memorial.
Taos County received more than 4 million dollars in state funding after the Legislature session, with county officials noting the return includes 1.796 million for Taos. County manager Sammy Pacheco credited lobbyists Mike Trujillo and Gabriel Cisneros for the favorable outcome and described it as well worth the 30 thousand spent.
