Burglary Ring Targets Celso's Taco Stand and Homes

Tees County deputies solved four related break ins in a week. Bernice Smith 29 of Questa charged with burglary and larceny over 4000 bond set. Items seized include snack foods cigarettes beer a sandwich warmer oven roofing materials and a ranch gate valued around 85. Three men arrested for larceny under 100.

Taos Legislation Push Seeks Millions in Local Grants

Taos and Mora counties could gain more than 82 million from new bills, as Rep Celestine Romero pushes for city and district funding. Romero seeks partial wins, including 385 000 for Northern New Mexico Community College and 480 000 for a Taos school administration building, but both measures were tabled. Sen Fran Gonzales proposes tax and infrastructure moves, including 2 percent gross receipts tax for sanitation districts and 880 000 to build a road to the MICA mine near Penasco, plus licensing changes and nepotism definitions in schools.

Environmental groups clash with bills in Santa Fe Taos

A four-group coalition TEA Taos Environmental Association Taos Action for Survival Committee and Taos Citizens Together opposes three air and water quality control bills in the New Mexico Senate Conservation Committee. Senate Bill 224 backed by Sen. Jack M. Morgan would trim air rules aligning with federal standards and has moved to the House. Senate Bill 77 would allow water quality variances for economic burden with safeguards. Senate Bill 223 would shift enforcement powers from EID to an appointed board or water commission with potential dilution of regulatory authority. TEA warns against weakening protections and mentions United Nuclear at Church Rock. Further, TEA labeled an Algodenes attorney Leonel Seniceros as their lobbyist.
