Belinda Gomez Dies at 101 with Taos Family Ties
Belinda Gonzales Gomez born in 1909 near Trinidad Colorado died February 14 in Walsenburg Colorado at age 101. Her life centered in southern Colorado with strong Taos family links including niece Dollie Mondragon who recalled visits for fiestas and cherished family recipes. Her son Pedro Gomez Jr. survived with his wife Ina and three grandsons in Colorado.

José Bernabe Ortega known as Bernie Ortega died February 15 at age 90 in Questa. He served 22 years on the Village Council and was a longtime educator at La Ciénega Elementary. A devoted Wildcats fan, he volunteered at games with friends and helped with community projects. He enjoyed outdoor life, sheep and cattle farming, pilgrimages with the Peregrinos, and spending time with his 13 grandchildren. See Page C8 for full obituary.

Co-op Board Bolsters Scholarship Fund With 10000 Boost
Kit Carson Electric Cooperative trustees moved 10000 into the education foundation to cover current scholarship shortfalls. They plan a March meeting to seek permanent funding and consider budgeting the foundation within the annual budget for steady support. The foundation’s investment sits at 102000 after a stock slide, and since 1997 has funded 402 scholarships totaling 379000 to high school seniors across five districts.
