In Taos, gas and electric firms say they rarely cut off heat or power when customers fall behind. They work with clients using CAP and budget plans, noting 842 delinquent accounts worth over 100000 dollars yet stressing personal notices and open communication.
Connie Griego of Talpa seeks 400000 in damages for an arm injury allegedly caused by August 1979 shoulder surgery at Holy Cross Hospital. The suit alleges a biopsy by an unidentified Taos physician severed a nerve impairing arm use and claims lack of qualification for the operation. Andres Vargas, Griego’s attorney, said the doctor is unnamed in the filing as a courtesy.
George Santistevan received one year probation after pleading guilty to assault and negligent use of a weapon for the October 21 attack on John Cintas. He must pay probation costs abstain from alcohol and may not use a firearm except to hunt deer or elk during the probation term.
Downstream residents file an impending suit against Twining Water and Sanitation District alleging pollution in the Rio Hondo during last spring and summer. The case, originally filed last fall by several associations, was reinstated with a new petitioner and delayed by negotiations over the proposed new treatment plant and hookup policy. State and federal clean water violations cited since December helped reopen the action as TWSD president Douglas Terry seeks dialogue, despite officials not fining the plant. A permit decision from Dallas and funding are awaited to advance the plant expansion.
Richard Siegel will ask Taos County Commission on Monday at 10 a.m. to transfer a liquor license from Placitas Road in Taos to the Canon hostelry. A previous bid was rejected by the Alcohol Bureau led by Jim Baca, who sided with Canon residents citing safety concerns about a busy highway and nearby center-city location.
