Taos High School playwrights, aided by about 60 friends, will debut a student written play. Tempo features details about the upcoming performance and cast.
Angel Fire reports 3 inches in past 24 hours with 56 inch base and 72 trails open. Enchanted Forest shows no new snow, Red River 45 50 inches with 57 trails open, Taos Ski Valley 2 inches and 110 trails open, Sipapu 3 inches with 33 trails open. Obituaries note Sophie L Graves 89 of Taos and M Clifford Romero 49 of Vadito died in mid February.
Taos District Court hears two rival versions of a July 2001 Llano San Juan shootout. Defense argues Paul Lopez is the victim in the case and seeks innocence. Prosecutors contend the incident could have been prevented if he had stayed home with his family.
Taos police pursued a pickup with teenagers on Adobe Road. The vehicle sped toward the high school, struck two cars and a planter, then rammed a stop sign and a parked car. Driver Jose D Mandragon, 17, was arrested after a late stop near Gusdorf. No injuries reported.
Taos County commissioners Nicklas Jaramillo Emanuel Pacheco and Virgil Martinez rejected Don Francisco Trujillos anti-big box proposal calling it a one man show and premature without prior commission contact. The vote and remarks dominated Monday proceedings as they criticized Trujillos intent.
Democrats convene precinct meetings in Taos to elect precinct officers and Credentials and Rules Committee members with a 6 p.m. March 22 meeting at The Quality Inn and a 10 a.m. April 2 County Central Committee session at the Sagebrush Conference Center to select a new chairman, vice chairman, and eight State Central Committee members amid ongoing campaign for the party’s future direction.
Lt. Eddie Martinez was cleared to return to work on Monday February 21 after administrative leave since November 12 during an investigation into sexual harassment charges. County commissioners heard a briefing from New Mexico Association of Counties attorney Steven Kopelman. The interim review noted the investigation by the EFOC remained ongoing and a five day suspension without pay was likely. interviews with the two complainants had not occurred yet. County Manager Sammy Pacheco will reserve judgment until all investigations conclude.
