Four county officials will have two year contracts through January 31 1985 with pay levels set for Tom Trujillo Sammy Montoya James Martinez and Jerry Mondragon. January salaries totaled nearly 14 000 for former officials and 12 000 for attorneys.
County road crews graded and gravelled a road to Jerry Howell's laundromat in El Prado after Commissioner James Duran misinterpreted it as a county road. Duran takes responsibility, orders repairs on all dry county roads, notes a new road foreman followed directives unknowingly, with Upper Ranchitos Road and a road behind Safeway also affected. County manager Tom Trujillo says Carson roads will get crews next week as culverts are supplied by the State Highway Department to stabilize drainage. Juran cites ongoing reorganization aimed at boosting efficiency.
Taos Town Council last week approved a zoning amendment for Gallery Villages Inc to change nine tenths of an acre on Archuleta Road from residential agricultural to general commercial. The project plans nine two bedroom condominiums east of Sagebrush Lane led by Taos residents Ray Lutz Marc Berterson and Thomas Hudsbeth. The council also authorized warrants service outside town limits and began selling 110 obsolete dumpsters. Leroy Romero honored for 27 years service as town water superintendent. Jeff Emmons and Don Espinosa named to Taos Tomorrow Committee.
Taos officials prepare a public survey on a proposed civic center site behind Farrs with transportation use and community attitudes. Farmington center director Paul Abe reports optimistic results and plans to present to the mayor early next week amid opposition and calls for a broader feasibility study.
Taos area ski conditions show all resorts 100 percent open with fresh snow. Taos Ski Valley reports 78 inches total with eight inches new. Angel Fire lists 38 inches at base and 52 at midway with eight inches new on both sides. Red River notes 50 inches base and 49 mid mountain with 15 inches new. Sipapu has 32 inches with five new. Rio Costilla reports 24 inches new and roads plowed. area mid-mountain totals around 50 inches.
County officials instructed former interim attorney Ralph Montez to pursue legal action to obtain county files from former lawyer Harold Breen who says he has not been contacted. Montez plans to petition the State Bar Association for help while Breen, who resigned in January, has not released the records. The absence of the files hampers understanding of pending litigation and hinders county actions as Montez and the district court clerk review records to determine cases.
