Taos resident Abran Jose Trujillo, 54, arraigned on trafficking and possession charges after police found more than 600 grams of cocaine, hashish, drug paraphernalia, and weapons at 414 Martinez Lane following a 911 call about a self-inflicted gunshot. Bail set at 26,000.
Taos Pueblo parents and Faust's Transportation representatives warned that without action to curb bus harassment and vandalism, no bus service may continue to the reservation. Indian Education Committee leader Leticia Marcus urged monitoring at the bus stop as fights and snowballing by youths escalate. Police patrols and driver support were requested amid reports of seat damage and verbal abuse.
Donna Martinez, a Questa Middle School teacher, faces two third degree felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon related to a Jan. 25 knife attack on school board member Steve Rael. Police responded twice that morning to the same house.
Taos High School edging toward Quad A status as 1,160 projected enrollment for next year nears 1,200. Principal Ted Hern cites four grades at the campus as forward looking, notes large sixth and seventh grades, and flags need for more classrooms and possibly another middle or elementary school.
Raymond P. Semino 31 pleaded not guilty at arraignment in magistrate court Monday. He is charged with two counts of criminal sexual penetration and one count of kidnapping all second degree felonies for alleged use of a handgun and an assault history. Bond set at 80 000 cash with 10 percent option requested by defense. prosecution argues 500 000 cash only. If no bond, preliminary hearing within 10 days to show probable cause or charges will be dismissed and sent to district court.
