New Mexico faces a soggy 2005 as rainfall and snow push drought conditions aside. Taos Ski Valley reports 190 inches of snow this season, with snowpack and soil moisture well above normal. Red River Pass and North Costilla basin show 137 and 200 percent of normal snow water equivalent, potentially fueling rivers and reservoirs.
Annie Gonzalez de Gonzales aged 40 from El Prado died February 8, after a life as wife and mother. Rosary was February 10, funeral Mass February 11, burial at Dolores Cemetery. Survived by her children and family, she was beloved by many. page A15.

A study by University of Montana economist Thomas Power finds Valle Vidal drilling will provide minimal economic benefits to Colfax County and none to Taos County, with about 94 temporary jobs for experienced gas field workers. Commissioned by the Coalition for Valle Vidal and funded by foundations, the report notes potential negative landscape effects and cites El Paso's lease request into the Valle Vidal from Vermejo Park Ranch.
