After 22 years the Taos Poetry Circus cancels its 2004 event with officials signaling a possible temporary hiatus. Tempo Loca News notes no permanent end, suggesting return when conditions allow.
March 1 marks the start of the murder trial for Earl T. Romo 16 accused in the shooting death of 19 year old Albert Trujillo. The case proceeds as the July selection is slated to begin with testimony and cross examination to follow in court.

Taos activist Pennie Wardlow supports a New Mexico Senate measure to add denatonium benzoate to antifreeze sold statewide. Taos High School Principal Lewis Johnson will not return after this school year. Taos County Commissioners on a 3-2 vote Feb. 2 agreed to donate second floor office space in the Old County Courthouse to the Taos County Gang Task Force. Dissenters cited lack of advance notice to nonprofits moving to accommodate the task force. privacy needs and interviews were discussed as key factors.
