Stranded hunters rescued after night in cold snow near Ute Mountain
A Llane Quemado man James Alford 46 with his two sons Brandon 12 and Joseph Alford 24 and cousin Samuel Diver 22 survived a night stranded without coats food or water after their truck ran out of gas. They built a fire from truck bed rails as a helicopter found them near Ute Mountain early Sunday. Joseph and Samuel hiked nine miles seeking a highway before sheltering in a pump house. Both were airlifted to Taos Regional Airport and Holy Cross Hospital with frostbite. The family praised survival and urged being prepared and taking hunter safety courses.

West Rim to build its own water station on US 64
