Taos church seeks permit amid neighbor concerns
Taos Valley Baptist Church seeks a special-use permit to build a 4000 square foot church at 320 Camino del Medio after neighbors questioned traffic parking and land use. Neighbors urged preserving agricultural land and open space while ensuring drainage lighting acequias and driveway access remain undisturbed. The issue goes to a Jan 9 2002 planning commission meeting.

Land exchange preserves Taos Overlook and aids San Felipe Pueblo
The Trust for Public Land and the U S Bureau of Land Management completed a complex exchange to preserve part of the Taos Valley Overlook and transfer culturally significant lands to San Felipe Pueblo. San Felipe acquires Overlook land via TPL, then conveys it to the BLM in exchange for lands near the pueblo. The deal ends five years of effort, expands TPL tribal outreach in New Mexico, and helps consolidate BLM ownership while reducing clashes between public and private land uses. Three Taos men indicted by a Taos Grand Jury include Larry J. Lopez for aggravated burglary and related charges, Lorenzo Archuleta for fourth degree rape, and Juan Jaramillo for assault and resisting officers.
