Trailer park on hold again in El Prado case

Geraldine Chacon and Fernando Miera’s bid for a 16 unit mobile home park near Rio Lucero Road was tabled by the Municipal County Zoning Authority on Thursday December 10. Pablito Trujillo moved to delay until February 3 to allow newly elected county commissioners to vote, as the three‑member county authority and two council appointees hold final say on planned unit developments and zone changes within the three mile radius.

Pueblo receives World Heritage Award for cultural preservation

The Pueblo were nominated and approved for a World Heritage Award by the World Heritage Committee at its 16th session. The award recognizes safeguarding survival, culture, resources, and traditions, with origins tracing to a 1987 nomination after expert visits. The governor praised the move and the Pueblo’s readiness to be included despite not actively pursuing the honor.

Ski Rio owners in town for resort reopening

Jacques DeBruijn, the new Ski Rio owner who bid 1.175 million at a Dallas auction, meets Rio Costilla Livestock Association and Taos County officials this week as they plan a community forum on Friday to discuss reopening next winter and creating local jobs. The resort once employed 170 people and paid over 1 million in annual wages before its 1990 closure.

Storms and snow forecast for northern New Mexico

Weatherman Stuart Jones warns of more storms and snow for Taos and northern New Mexico this week. Dec 17 to 19 expect highs around 30, lows near zero, with clear to partly cloudy skies and chances of fresh snow. Taos has about seven inches since Dec 4. snow distribution varies by air masses and west to east mountain influence.

Fernandez owes county after felony ruling and resignation

Former county commissioner David Fernandez had not repaid the county for salary and travel funds after his Nov. 19 felony conviction for intimidating a witness. Judge Caldwell ordered repayment on Dec. 9 and accepted Fernandez’s resignation, retroactive to the conviction. As of Dec. 15, about $420 of the roughly $760 paid after Nov. 19 was for post conviction work, with contempt possible if unpaid.

Carnival tragedy moves toward courts

Civil suits allege wrongful death and personal injury as investigators conclude a pattern of neglect by the ride operator.
