William Gallag her, rancher and businessman from Eagle Nest, won the New Mexico Senate majority leader post at a Friday caucus in Santa Fe. He defeated J M Ike Smalley 15 13 on the third ballot after a tied 14 14 first ballot, with Sen Gordon Melody seen as pivotal. Gallagher, in the Senate since 1987, aims to unite for NM’s people. Judge C R McIntosh presided in Taos court when word came that his sister Mrs Dorris Herrin had died in Redondo Beach California. The 60 year old former Raton resident died after a heavy docket kept him in court through Sunday and required his presence in Raton Monday. Funeral services were held in Redondo Beach. Survived by husband Joe mother Mrs C W Ruffner Albuquerque sister Mrs Myrtle Leonard Tulsa daughter Mrs Francis Thomson and three grandchildren Kent Washington and a brother Judge McIntosh. Herrin was a Raton High School graduate and University of Missouri attendee with ties to Taos.

The annual feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe was celebrated on Saturday December 12 with vesper services and a procession from the church to the Plaza guided by luminarias. Farolies decorated house tops as crowds observed the patron saint of Mexico and of many U.S. communities. Taos has observed the day for over four centuries.

Cabresto Lake Ditch Receives $10000 ASCACP Support
At the Taos County ASC SCS meeting Miss Guadalupe Cardenas presented a $10000 check to Cabresto Lake Ditch System officers under an ACP pooling project. Joe Thompson of Questa accepted as ditch manager. The sum covers 70 percent of construction costs with 30 percent to be split by the State and ditch members. Frankiin Hill contractor lined 4200 feet of ditch water seepage savings reported. Barela Ditch System earlier received $2570 from ASC under ACSP. Soil Conservation provides technical supervision.

Car Crash On Highway 64 Near Sagebrush Inn
State Police investigated a three-vehicle wreck on Highway 64 near the Sagebrush Inn Sunday afternoon. Antonia Fernandez driving a 1960 sedan signaled left. David Armando Trujillo stopped in a 1957 car. Joseph Miera, in a 1955 auto, rear ended Trujillo, pushing him into Fernandez. three cars damaged for about 900 dollars total. Miera faced charges as the investigation continued.
Rita Cordova Funeral Rites Held in Talpa
Funeral services for Rita Aurora Cordova 37 died at home in Talpa on December 10 were conducted Monday at Nuestra Senora de San de los Lagos with Father John Mc Hugh presiding. She was a Talpa lifelong resident and is survived by her mother Dolores Cruz of Las Vegas New Mexico three daughters Loyola Virginia Kathy six weeks and a brother Carlos Cruz of Talpa. Burial followed in Talpa Cemetery with pallbearers Elia Medina Eloy Romero Pablo Martinez Alfonso Vigil Felix Medina and Alfiro Tafoya.
