Concessions in firewood fracas spark cautious talks

Interstate crime spree ends for Smith's robbers

Two suspects, Lonnie Weisman and Tommy David Martin, tied to a Sept 26 Taos grocery robbery and eight other store heists across New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas, were tracked via nationwide bulletins after authorities linked vehicle and robbery descriptions. Weisman was captured after a high speed chase near Hot Springs Arkansas. Martin fled on foot.

Taos schools to get 8 million makeover this fall

Taos Municipal School District plans an 8 million restructuring and facilities program to move sixth graders to the middle school and ninth graders to the high school. Jon Dick of Yates Hogan Architects says construction should finish before the 1996 spring semester. The plan follows a property tax increase approved by voters two years ago and reflected in fall tax notices.

Braunlich murder trial delayed to February after illness

Daniel Vigil’s murder trial in the Braunlich case is postponed again to February. The delay comes amid a history of motions, with prosecutors seeking resolution in Karen Roni Braunlich’s October 1994 death. Vigil faces second degree murder, tampering with evidence, and first degree criminal sexual penetration charges.
