Three Taos area students Marcella F. Vigi Blas Joseph Sanchez and James Hopkins take part in UNM tutoring required for a professional education course. About five hundred fifty students are placed in city schools to provide community service early exposure to teaching and act as a screening device for aptitude.

Fee hike delayed for grazing fees on public lands
Secretary Walter Hickel postponed the 1970 grazing fee increase. In letters to Senate and House Interior committees he stated no new hikes will occur until the Public Land Law Review Commission finishes its study on public land uses.

Murder suspect linked to Los Angeles hippie group
Friends in Taos recalled a group leader’s claim that a baby remained in a mountain retreat while the mother could leave. The woman, Kasabian, later said she would seek custody in Los Angeles. Police described a roaming commune and ritual murder implications. Kasabian, said to be pregnant, was arrested in Los Angeles.

Taos Christmas Parade Planned With Santa On Bandstand
Taos hosts a Christmas program in the town plaza featuring Santa in a decorated sleigh and a 2:00 p.m. children parade. Taos Elementary students sing, with Mrs. Mary Kaye Murphy directing. Judges will award prizes of 25, 10, and 5 dollars for parade entries. A new color transparency contest offers a $10 prize for best Taos area Christmas lighting photo.Entries due January 15, 1970.

Fire damages Taos Pla-12a Theater and ventilators
Fire continued from page 2 damaged the Pla-12a Theater in Taos with costs not yet set. The building is owned by Brandenburg family members. A spokesman noted a real need for a theater but building costs will guide any action. Bill Whaley estimated losses around 30000, covered by insurance, and plans to run the El Cortez Theater in Ranchos de Taos temporarily while considering Taos operations.

Pueblo Governor Resigns Amid Illness After Feast
Taos Pueblo Governor Lupe Sandoval submitted his resignation to the pueblo council. Officials said he fell ill after a ceremonial feast on September 30 and could not fulfill duties. Lieutenant Governor Alfred Suazo will serve until a new governor is elected on December 31. The new administration begins January 1, 1970.
