Arson suspected in blaze at historic Ojo Caliente spa

Five area fire departments battled a November blaze at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs spa suspected to be arson. Propane line damage and gas ignition caused the explosion and fire, with an estimated 200000 dollars in damage to the bath house. No suspects named. Randee Huff said layoffs may follow until rebuilding. the spa has 53 employees.

Carjackers stop in Taos after Santa Fe assault

Two men attacked James A. Martinez at La Bajada rest stop near Santa Fe and fled with his white 1986 Mazda RX7 and belongings. The suspects briefly shopped in Taos using a stolen check, which was exposed as stolen when the clerk verified it. The car and dogs disappeared. police identified the vehicle later but saw no follow up. Curran noted the suspects may not be Taos residents and could have been passing stolen checks.

Indictment possible in Hafner murder case in Taos

Ninety percent of lab tests from evidence at Eileen Hafner home were returned as Taos police and deputies await the final report. Investigators hope the last results will place the killer at the scene and enable a grand jury indictment for first degree murder, with the suspect at large almost six months after Hafner was found beaten July 13.

Alleged crime spree lands youths in court

In Taos and Santa Fe a group of five youths faced charges including robbery armed robbery and two counts of false imprisonment Detention hearings showed little emotion from most with Lisa Nelson a Questa teenager crying as her mother consented to detention Nelson also known as Lisa Hernandez was singled out for noted unruliness prior to the proceedings.
