Obituary: Carlos Cruz 63 Talpa Drowned in Ditch
Carlos Cruz 63 of Talpa was found dead Friday afternoon in an irrigation ditch near his home. A coroner's jury ruled the death an accident by drowning. He fell into the ditch Thursday night and drowned as water ran through it. He is survived by his wife Sal' omae Cruz, a son Gilbert of Talpa, four daughters Mrs. Paul Martinez, Mrs. Eloy Martinez, Mrs. Daniel Gallegos of Talpa, and Mrs. Alfredo Romero of Craig, Colo. 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral mass was held 9 a.m. Monday at the Talpa chapel, Rev. Father Clarence Galli officiating. Burial in Talpa Cemetery, under Garcia Funeral Home direction. Pallbearers were Gustavo Fernandez, J. A. Maes, Celsio Martinez, Levi Salazar, Pablo Herrera, Won. J. A. Maes delivered the eulogy.

A Methodist Church has been officially established in Taos with Rev. Dr F Lee Willshire as pastor and Rev Earl Nowlin overseeing. About 30 members have joined and 100 more are prospective. services will start December 4 in a building north of Taos known as ET Pueblito, recently purchased from John McCarthy, and remodels are planned to create a chapel parlor church school and nursery with living quarters for the minister.

Bighorn Hunters Have Good Kill
A group of 20 bighorn sheep hunters completed their season ending October 23. Nine legal rams were taken, with three more rams killed but lacking regal horn qualities. Of 200 licenses, 197 hunters went afield and 84 elk were killed. Hunter success for elk reached 42.6 percent, while the overall hunt yielded notable milestones despite abominable weather early on.
