County to oppose annexation in Taos plans
Taos County officials urge residents to tell the Town Council and Mayor Fred Peralta how they feel about annexation plans. Commissioner Gabriel Romero says he will oppose any annexation. Commissioner Rebecca Pérraz warns of residents’ concerns. The plan covers El Prado, Blueberry Hill, Weimer area, Espinoza Road to U.S. Forest lands, and enclaves like Las Haciendas and Camén near Kit Carson Road. Town planners cite growth control and revenue as reasons, while noting disagreement among officials and a Blueberry Hill exclusion in an alternate plan. The county would lose gross receipts tax if annexed.
