Burglars Steal $2000 in Goods From Motel Room

West German tourists reported a burglary at Jack Denver's Motel on Thursday August 10. Entry was gained by sliding a window on the east side. Police recovered three items including a gold plated mirror valued at $1000. Investigation continues.

Three men sentenced after plea bargains

John Trujillo, 30, received a one-year deferred sentence and one year of supervised probation for stealing cigarettes from El Lianito Grocery on SR 68 and must pay restitution to store owner Louisa Valerio. Michael Wric Dion Marcos, 18, got three years six months suspended, with two years of supervised probation for an April 7 burglary at Elidio Gonzales’s La Loma home. Steven Archuleta, 35, faces an 18-month probation with an 18-month suspended sentence for April 1 receiving stolen property involving jewelry.

Taos County awards new emergency number for ambulance service

Call 758-1911 for emergency calls for the county ambulance service. Taos County Association of Paramedical Professionals announced this week that the new number took effect Tuesday August 24 to conform with national crisis and hotline numbers.

Taos Town Bonds Awarded for Sewer System Upgrade

Taos Town Council issued 300000 dollars in bonds to Quinn and Company of Albuquerque on August 18 to fund the town sewer system improvements. Quinn and Company bid 10.05 percent interest, the lower of two bids. State matching funds and a federal grant of about 1.6 million will assist the project. funds should be available in 35 to 40 days.

Taos town recognizes Leroy Vargas street superintendent for ten years of service with outstanding performance in street repairs sign replacement cleaning and snow removal. He assists the airport and park and recreation department and will receive a dinner for two at Sagebrush Inn.
