Taos FFA Member Wins New Wool Breed Flock Award
Taos Hich Schol Junior from Ranchos de Taos named a recipient of a flock from a new De mouflett breed. Toby Martinez, son of Mr and Mrs Pat Martines, earns 15 ewes and a ram, a groundbreaking grant through Sears Rochuck Foundation. He will travel to Roswell Sept 7 10 to receive the sheep and will keep them on the family ranch, tying local wool industry pride to a statewide FFA program. Hal Stephenson, advisor, notes this is among the first three flocks awarded in the state and the breed is still limited to a Roswell area ranch.

Wheat Growers Vote Today To Determine 1962 Program
Thirty one Taos County wheat producers are eligible to vote today in the wheat marketing quota referendum. They must choose between marketing quotas with penalties, a 2 dollar per bushel parity support, and diversion payments or no marketing restrictions with 50 percent parity and no stabilization payments. The current parity price is 2.37 per bushel. Agricultural reports note the harvest near 1.3 billion bushels, about one percent below last year and 15 percent above the ten year average.

Martines of Questa released on back‑support payments
Martinez a Questa school teacher and state education board member, was released from Bernalillo County jail after agreeing to monthly back‑support payments totaling about 764 dollars and 1962.
