San Juan Chama funding blocked by House committee
The House Appropriations Committee rejected President Kennedy's request for 550 thousand dollars to begin planning the San Juan Chama water diversion, delaying the 86 million project. Rep. Montoya and Sen. Chavez said funding may come in other bills, but prospects look slim. Meanwhile a separate 761 thousand was approved to start the Navajo Irrigation Project.

ESPANOLA The president of Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative Inc says all negotiations for selling the cooperative are at a definite end. In a July 19 letter to Public Service Co of New Mexico president D W Reeves, Joe Ferran cited tactics seen as aimed at drawing consumers away. Ferran said district meetings showed a quorum and overwhelming desire to keep the cooperative.
