Taos News staffers enjoyed a night at All the President's Men hosted by Taos Plaza Theatre impresario Bill Whaley. The group preferred the theater experience with popcorn aroma over late TV viewing, a consoling alternative to the Washington Post news run.
The Plaza Theatre showcases A Man and a Woman and other titles including Won Ton Ton and The Magic Flute while the drive-in remains popular for families. Rudi Wyrsch reports a successful last week fundraiser with about 700 dollars raised by the Trike Race sponsored by Taos police youth programs. Taos Mountain Rats organized the event, winners included Tereah Tafoya, Matthew Vigil, Lawrence Luna, and John J. Cunica. Community efforts continued as Cheryl Wsniczak won the MDA Telethon Queen title. Local dining and nightlife feature El Patio, El Comedor de Vargas, Sagebrush Inn, and Woody’s with live acts and bartenders offering regional fare and cocktails.
Taos gospel group Road of Faith will headline a 10 day World of Compassion Crusade opening Friday August 13 across from A W restaurant. Evangelist Felix Maestas and Hank Snow son Jimmy Snow join. Valley Singers from Capulin and Charisma from Albuquerque also perform. Meetings start 7 30 pm daily with Sunday at 3 pm. No admission charged.
Taos welcomes La Dona Luz a French style dining spot housed in the 82 built Don Santiago Martinez home on Kit Carson Road across from the Kit Carson House. Harold Timber from Milwaukee owns it with executive chefs his sons aged 18. The menu features French and Spanish influenced dishes from crab Louis to paella with lunch daily except Sunday and dinner hours 6 to 9 pm.
